Dr Angelos Sofocleous

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, working on the phenomenology of grief. I hold a PhD in Philosophy from the University of York, with my thesis titled A Phenomenological Study of Interpersonal Relationships in Experiences of Depression.

My research lies at the intersection of phenomenology, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of psychiatry. I am particularly interested in how experiences such as depression and grief transform temporality, embodiment, interpersonal relationships, and our sense of the world. A further strand of my research examines metaphor use in mental disorders and other phenomena, exploring how metaphorical expressions can illuminate aspects of lived experience that are difficult to articulate in more literal terms.
